Preventative Maintenance Benefits

Have you ever questioned whether or not preventive maintenance (PM) dollars are effective? Well, wonder no more. Specialized preventive maintenance does pay and MECO has the data to prove it. There is a direct correlation between dollars spent on repair activity and preventive maintenance activities provided by MECO. Graph 1 provides a comparison of five companies in the pharmaceutical industry utilizing MECO equipment. Three of these companies utilize MECO routinely for PM activities and two do not. The bar graph indicates average repair activity per MECO unit per year (left axis) and the stars indicate average PM dollars spent per unit per year (right axis). As you can see, customers who utilize MECO routine PM services and training spend less on repair activity. Customers that do not utilize MECO PM services have an average repair rate almost 3 times greater than MECO PM customers.

Graph 2 provides a comparison of PM dollars spent plus typical repair costs and service repair costs, per year per unit. Although there is only a $1,000 dollar difference in dollars spent per unit per year, the customers not utilizing MECO for PM activity are experiencing over three times the amount of unscheduled downtime requiring service (indicated by red bar in graph). We believe, the true cost associated with the downtime and other issues these customers face is significantly greater than the graph depicts.

Therefore, if you are using MECO for your preventive maintenance activities for your stills, be assured that your PM dollars are proving to be effective in reducing the overall operating costs of your units. If you are not using MECO for PM, you may possibly have unnecessary expense due to unscheduled downtime and/or less than optimum performance from your equipment.
