Waste Heat Solution for offshore Nigeria

Situation

  • An oil drilling company operating offshore Nigeria had requirement for potable water, rig wash water, and for high purity boiler feed water.
  • The rig has significant amount of waste heat available.
  • The location is in shallow water subject to high levels of turbidity.

Solution

  • MECO provided a waste heat watermaker rated at 20,000 gallons per day of distilled water.
  • The watermaker operated on waste heat from engines, but also utilized a supplemental steam heat exchanger with a circulation system, whenever engine load was low.
  • The system included a cyclone separator and pre-filter to address the high turbidity problem.
  • Also included were a post treatment and potabilization unit with a pressure set, and a high-pressure wash-down system.
  • A fully integrated control system ensured all components functioned together properly.
