MECO's multipass reverse osmosis units are saving the day - and the quality of water - for clients in the Gulf of Mexico all the way to the Gulf of Aden.

MECO has completed the third MMRO10000 (10,000 GPD or 38m3/Day) seawater reverse osmosis unit for the Discoverer Series drill ships (Discoverer Enterprise, Spirit & Deepseas). These drill ships are 800 feet long and require supplemental watermakers to compensate for the waste heat watermakers that did not provide an adequate supply.

Transocean Sedco Forex has announced that its newly constructed, ultra-deepwater drillship, Discoverer Spirit, has completed acceptance criteria testing and has commenced a five-year, estimated $372 million contract with Unocal Corporation's Spirit Energy 76 division in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. The dynamically positioned Discoverer Spirit is the second Enterprise-class drillship to enter the Transocean Sedco Forex active fleet, following the December 1999 delivery of the Discoverer Enterprise (contracted by BPAmoco). The rig, which can drill in water depths of up to 10,000 feet, possesses the company's patented dual activity drilling processes, comprising primarily of two complete drilling systems within one derrick.
